2014 Brings Worst Jobs Report In 3 Years

January 10, 2014

But seriously, where are the jobs?

The new year brought a stunningly bad jobs report—the smallest in three years.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, just 74,000 jobs were created in December, which is the lowest monthly total since January 2011.

The unemployment rate did fall to 6.7 percent, but solely because a record number of people dropped out of the labor force. 347,000 people left and the participation rate currently stands at a 36-year low.

These types of numbers are not just discouraging, they show that President Obama and Washington Democrats have failed to create the jobs they promised.  The government cannot spend its way into prosperity.

If we want lasting job growth and rising incomes for all Americans, we need to cut taxes, rein in our spending, and grow the middle class. That’s what the Republican majority in the House is working each day to do.

But—as this jobs report shows—we cannot do it alone. We need to work to grow our majority this November. Our country cannot afford to go back to the days of Democrat-controlled House (and the even more disastrous jobs reports that went with it).

Stand with the NRCC and House Republicans…because we cannot allow this to become the new normal.
