A Month After “Running On ObamaCare,” Are Dems Ready To Concede House Majority Already?

January 31, 2014

Over the last three days, Democrats have begun changing their tune on prospects for winning back the House in 2014. Just a little more than a month after DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz vowed all of their candidates would run on ObamaCare.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane…

Wednesday: “I’m not going to confidently predict that Democrats will take the House back.” (DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz)

Thursday: “‘Making up their 17-seat deficit in the House, on the other hand, looks like a nonstarter for Democrats; it would not be surprising, some pundits say, for Republicans to expand their House majority.’” (Politico)

Friday: “‘Listen, a really good night [on Election Day] would be that we hold even,’ said a top Democratic strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity. ‘Everyone in leadership is aware of that.’” (Politico)

Even DCCC Chairman Steve Israel is changing his tune. Last year, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel believed Democrats had a good chance at taking back the House. Now, he won’t commit.

I wonder how Democrats running across the country feel about this vote of confidence…

NRCC COMMENT: “We haven’t even reached February and Democrats are already throwing in the towel on winning back the House. Clearly, Democrats can’t overcome the ObamaCare undertow.” – Matt Gorman, NRCC Spokesman
