Retired Military Official: We Knew Benghazi Attacks Were Not Caused By A Video

May 1, 2014

Robert Lovell, a brigadier general stationed in the U.S.’s Africa Command headquarters in Germany during the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012, testified before the House Oversight Committee this morning that he believed the Benghazi attacks were a terrorist attack, and not attributable to a video.

“We felt it was Ansar al Sharia,” Lovell told Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz, and then confirmed that the group was associated with Al Qaeda.

“Was it a video?” Rep. Chaffetz asked.

“No sir,” Lovell replied.
