Republicans have the advantage in competitive races

May 23, 2014

A recent POLITICO battleground poll  is cause for grave concern among House Democrats.

The poll surveyed likely voters in the most competitive House races across the country and shows Republicans with a distinct advantage heading into the mid-terms. On the generic congressional ballot, voters prefer a Republican candidate over a Democratic candidate, 41%-34%, a remarkable 7% lead. This tracks closely with Republicans’ 5% lead on the generic congressional ballot in a recent House battleground survey by Democrat-leaning Democracy Corps.

The Politico poll also shows 89% of voters citing President Obama’s new health care law as important in determining which candidate they will support at the ballot box in November. Considering the consistently high disapproval numbers drawn by the President’s signature legislation, this is indeed bad news for the President and his Democrat allies in the House.
