VIDEO: Nick Rahall’s Pathetic Excuse for Not Agreeing to Limit Outside Spending in WV-03

August 2, 2014

The wheels are starting to come off Nick Rahall’s campaign. Today, the front page of the Charleston Gazette contained this headline: “Rahall: No to Bid by Jenkins for ban on outside money.” This ban would have eliminated outside spending and would have required both candidates to donate all PAC money to a charity for out-of-work coal miners.

So when Rahall ironically had a rally today about “West Virginia not being for sale,” several coal miners confronted Rahall (picture at the right) to demand an explanation as to why he wouldn’t sign the pledge to the benefit of thousands of coal miners and their families.

Rahall’s response is here, in this video. In a nutshell, Rahall thinks that a ban on outside would disadvantage him so . . . no deal.

Let’s put this in perspective. Rahall can’t run on his voting record because for the past six years it has been more in tune with the Obama agenda than the interest of West Virginia. He can’t run on his party’s platform, because his party wants to bankrupt the coal industry. And now he can’t even run on his “West Virginia’s not for sale” rhetoric because he just showed how full of it he is on that issue.

So what’s Nick Rahall’s next lie?

NRCC Comment: “Nick Rahall has been bought and sold by Barack Obama’s anti-coal billionaire friends. So it’s only natural that when Evan Jenkins offered to work with Rahall to ban outside money and send all corporate campaign donations to out-of-work coal miners Rahall would selfishly refuse and show what a liar he truly is.”    – NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior
