The New DCCC Ad In CA26 Accidentally Highlights How Much Money Julia Brownley Received From Unions

September 5, 2014

Here’s how you can tell national Democrats are starting to get nervous about Democrat Julia Brownley’s campaign.

The DCCC’s first ad in CA-26 alleges that her Republican opponent, Jeff Gorell, is a lobbyist. That’s false. Gorell, an active Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves, is not and has never been a registered lobbyistThat’s an easily provable lie.

In one claim, the DCCC’s ad cites the National Institute of Money In State Politics to claim that Gorell accepted money from the insurance industry.

We’re happy the DCCC brought this up. According to the National Institute of Money In State Politics – the same source the DCCC uses in their ad –Julia Brownley accepted $129,331 from lawyers and lobbyists while in the California State Assembly.

But that’s nothing. While in the State Assembly, Brownley accepted a whopping $470,471 from unions!

I’d like to thank the DCCC for airing an ad that is demonstrably false, while also giving us the opportunity to point out that Julia Brownley bankrolled her time in the State Assembly with half a million dollars in campaign cash from unions.

NRCC Comment: “Before Democrats starts attacking Jeff Gorell over campaign contributions, they might want to take a look at their own candidate. While Jeff Gorell was serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves, Julia Brownley was being bankrolled by lobbyists and unions to the tune of half a million dollars. The DCCC’s latest ad just shows how desperate they are becoming to thwart Jeff Gorell’s momentum towards victory.” – Andrew Clark, NRCC Digital Press Secretary
