Dems Offensive Hopes Fade, Retreat To Defense As They Pull Money From Yet Another Highly-Touted Candidate

  • It is three weeks until Election Day and Democrats have a more ineffective offense than the Jacksonville Jaguars.
  • Across the country, Democrats are decidedly on defense and have pulled money from once highly-touted candidates in a last ditch effort to boost Pelosi-backed incumbents.
  • Meanwhile, Republicans are playing almost exclusively in Obama districts, expanding the map and growing the majority.
  • In 21 days, America will once again put a check on an Obama Administration that is failing to lead in Washington and overwhelmingly elect a strong, conservative House majority.

Just Yesterday, House Majority PAC Delayed It’s Ad Buy In New Jersey’s 3rd District In Support Of Aimee Belgard. “House Majority PAC, a super PAC that boosts House Democrats, recently delayed a week’s worth of advertising in New Jersey’s 3rd District in the final stretch of the campaign. Democrat Aimee Belgard and Republican Tom MacArthur are running to replace retiring Republican Rep. Jon Runyan in one of a few races left on the map where Democrats remain on offense.” (Abby Livingston, “House Majority PAC Shifts Ad Time In New Jersey Race,” Roll Call, 10/13/14)

On Friday, The DCCC Pulled Its Money From Colorado’s 6th District. “National Democrats are canceling more than $1 million of planned commercial airtime for Colorado congressional candidate Andrew Romanoff — a sign of waning confidence in his prospects. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had reserved $1.4 million for TV spending to boost Romanoff in the final two weeks of his race against Republican Rep. Mike Coffman. But a DCCC aide said Friday that those funds would be distributed to other races.” (Alex Isenstadt, “DCCC pulls $1M in ads for Romanoff,” Politico, 10/10/14)

The DCCC Also Canceled A $2.8 Million Buy In Virginia’s 10th District. “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has canceled its television advertising in a competitive northern Virginia House district and will shift most of that money to help a Democratic incumbent in northern California, according to a Democrat who monitors media buys. The sum of the DCCC’s cancellation in Virginia’s 10th District was $2.8 million, according to the source. Democrats were on the offensive in the open-seat race to replace retiring Rep. Frank R. Wolf, R-Va.” (Abby Livingston, “Democrats Cut Bait In Virginia To Save California House Seat,” Roll Call, 10/9/14)

Roll Call: House Democrats Cut Ad Buy In Michigan. “National Democrats have canceled $425,000 in television ad reservations for a House race the party hoped to put in play in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, according to multiple sources monitoring the media market. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had been targeting Republican Rep. Dan Benishek, who is being challenged by Democrat Jerry Cannon.” (Abby Livingston and Bridget Bowman, “House Democrats Cut Ad Buy In Michigan,” Roll Call, 10/8/14)

The DCCC “Has Started To Pull Back Its Advertising Buys In Several Congressional Districts Around The Country.” “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has started to pull back its advertising buys in several congressional districts around the country, according to an aide. At this point in the cycle, the cancellations — also known as “triage” — serve as a signal the party does not see a path to victory for these candidates or races. House Majority PAC, a Democratic super PAC, has already pulled some of its buys in the same districts.” (Abby Livingston, “DCCC Cuts Airtime in 8 TV Markets,” Roll Call, 10/6/14)
