Daniel Parra welcomes endorsement from “Third World despot”

April 13, 2015

Only a few days into his campaign, third-tier candidate Daniel Parra is already showing why national Democrats looked everywhere else before reluctantly victor lopezsettling on him to run in California’s 21st Congressional District. Parra managed to botch a standard endorsement announcement by including Orange Cove Mayor Victor Lopez on the list. Lopez’s endorsement is problematic for two reasons:

First, Lopez is widely known for his questionable ethics, having been before grand juries 12 times and called  a “Third World despot” by the Orange Cove police Chief. Additionally, the LA Times reported that Parra’s travel expenses between 2001 and 2005 “surpassed the travel expenses for officials from five neighboring farm towns combined.” Parra did not have to provide receipts for the expenses.

Second, Orange Cove isn’t even in the 21st District, where Parra is running. Does Parra not know what towns are in the district he wants to represent, or is he so desperate for support that he will accept endorsements from anyone?

NRCC Comment: “Daniel Parra is showing a disturbing lack of judgement by welcoming the endorsement of a corrupt mayor from outside the district he hopes to represent. Voters should be very concerned about the company Daniel Parra keeps and what those friendships say about Parra himself.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
