Imagine if House Democrats Were Running Your Favorite NFL Franchise’s Draft Room

With the NFL draft starting tomorrow night, I thought it would be a fun exercise to ask yourself if you would feel comfortable giving the keys to your favorite franchise to the crew pictured above.

And before you answer that, take a look at the latest “How the Democrats plan to rebuild their broken caucus” article from Politico.  It’s pretty funny to watch House Democrats completely delude themselves about why they are at their lowest point since the 1920’s. They are convinced that if they just change the way they “talk about themselves” they will appeal to more than just “hardcore Democrat voters.”

What this fails to recognize is two very important things: (1) their recent recruits (see Domenic Recchia, Erin Bilbray, Martha Robertson) make Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell look like decisions of pure genius, and (2) House Democrats can change their message all they want, but they will remain in a deep minority status as long as Nancy Pelosi is their leader and they keep pushing liberal policies that raise taxes, increase spending, and do nothing to address this country’s long term problems.

Then again, maybe the key to a more successful cycle for Democrats is not having the former DCCC chairman writing a novel in the middle of an election year – but we’re betting that probably didn’t come up in the meeting.

NRCC Comment: “Despite their delusions to the contrary, there is no magical messaging Clearasil that House Democrats can apply that will replace Nancy Pelosi as their leader and cover up their record of job killing policies that are holding middle class families back. That said, we welcome the efforts of House Democrats to try and figure out how to better ‘talk about themselves’ – meanwhile, Republicans will just continue to do their jobs of listening to what middle class Americans are saying and fighting for them in Washington.” – NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior
