Which part of Obama’s NDAA veto is Mike Derrick happiest about?

November 2, 2015

fort drumAccording to the Glens Falls Post-Star, Mike Derrick is publicly defending Barack Obama’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).  This is the first time in over 50 years that a President has vetoed the NDAA.  So which part of the recently-vetoed NDAA is Derrick happiest to see stuck in limbo while Barack Obama plays political games?

Does Derrick really support the vetoing of provisions that protect Fort Drum from another round of BRAC closures? Or maybe Derrick just doesn’t like the idea of ensuring that the brave soldiers of Fort Drum and their families receive their paychecks.  Speaking of paychecks, why does Derrick support the President blocking a 1.3% pay raise for troops like those at Fort Drum?  And why is Derrick supporting Obama’s veto of a bill that includes provisions to support victims of sexual assault and for suicide prevention?

NRCC Comment:  “It’s a shame that Mike Derrick would support Barack Obama vetoing a bill that directly affects the livelihood of the North Country, especially those stationed at Fort Drum.  The last thing our brave soldiers and their families should be worried about is whether or not Mike Derrick is supporting a Commander in Chief who is willing to play politics with their paychecks and safety.”  -NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
