DCCC loses yet another recruit, this time in KY

November 23, 2015

matt jonesIn what has become a weekly occurrence, the DCCC has suffered yet another highly public recruiting failure, this time in KY-06. Radio host Matt Jones declined to jump in the race after stringing national Democrats along for months, even attending a candidate boot camp in Washington, DC just a few short weeks ago.

Jones was seemingly the Democrats’ last, best, and only “hope” in a district that Congressman Andy Barr won with 60% of the vote in 2014 and voted for the GOP presidential nominees in both 2012 and 2008. After seeing Democrats routed all across the Bluegrass State earlier this month, it’s no surprise Jones ultimately decided that “the time is not right” for him to run. The real surprise would be for any Democrat, including our friends at the DCCC, to actually believe that KY-06 will treat them any better in 2016 than it has in the last few elections.

“Matt Jones’ decision to stay out of the race in KY-06 only further highlights how out of sorts the Democratic Party is, pouring salt on their wounds from the most recent elections in Kentucky. Democrats were already in disarray all across the Bluegrass State, and this latest recruiting failure only pushes them further from relevance.” – NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
