Emilio Huerta Files In CA-21, Makes Valley Dem vs DCCC Battle Official

January 4, 2016

battle beginsIn a quiet New Year’s Day FEC filing, Emilio Huerta has taken the long-simmering battle between Valley Democrats and the DCCC in CA-21 to the next level. Huerta officially filed to run for Congress on January 1st, pitting the DCCC favored candidate who doesn’t even live in the district against Fowler Mayor Daniel Parra, who enjoys significant local support.

The feud boiled over in December when local Democrats publicly lambasted the DCCC for not understanding Valley politics and botching races that they believe should have been more competitive. Despite objections from local activists, the DCCC has been attempting to recruit on top of Parra for months, suffering four high-profile recruiting failures in the process. Now that the DCCC has gotten their anybody-but-Parra wish, it’s time to grab some popcorn and enjoy the intra-party food fight.

“Emilio Huerta’s entrance into the race will only make the battle between Valley Democrats and the DCCC more bitter. As Washington Democrats attempt to push their handpicked candidate who doesn’t even live in the district through the primary, it will only further divide Democrats in a district that has given them fits for multiple cycles.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
