Will John Delaney return FBI target McAuliffe’s money?

May 24, 2016

News recently broke that the FBI is investigating whether Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe illegally accepted $120,000 in campaign contributions from foreign nationals. While this is sorted out, will Congressman John Delaney return the $5,000 he has accepted from McAuliffe and his wife in 2012?delaney

According to FEC filings, McAuliffe and his wife both donated $2,500 to Delaney’s campaign on March 14, 2012 for a total of $5,000. The FBI investigation into McAuliffe is reportedly focused on whether Chinese foreign nationals laundered $120,000 in campaign contributions to McAuliffe through the foreign nationals’ U.S. business subsidiary. The big problem for McAuliffe and Delaney is U.S. election law prohibits foreign nationals from donating to political races.

NRCC Comment: “Will John Delaney return the money he accepted from Terry McAuliffe and his wife now that the FBI is investigating whether McAuliffe accepted $120,000 in laundered money from foreign nationals? John Delaney needs to do the right thing and return the McAuliffe’s donation while the FBI determines if the governor participated in a laundering scheme with Chinese foreign nationals.” –NRCC Spokesperson Camille Gallo
