Will LuAnn Bennett return FBI target McAuliffe’s money?

May 24, 2016

bennettNow that the FBI is investigating whether Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe illegally accepted $120,000 in campaign contributions from foreign nationals, will VA-10 candidate LuAnn Bennett return the $10,800 she has accepted from McAuliffe and his wife since December?

According to FEC filings, McAuliffe and his wife both donated $2,700 to Bennett’s campaign on December 31, 2015 and on March 31, 2016 for a total of $10,800.  The FBI investigation into McAuliffe is reportedly focused on whether Chinese foreign nationals laundered $120,000 in campaign contributions to McAuliffe through the foreign nationals’ U.S. business subsidiary.  U.S. election law prohibits foreign nationals from donating to political races.

NRCC Comment: “Will LuAnn Bennett return the money she accepted from Terry McAuliffe and his wife now that the FBI is investigating whether McAuliffe accepted $120,000 in laundered money from foreign nationals? LuAnn Bennett should do the right thing by returning the McAuliffe’s money while the FBI determines if the governor illegally accepted $120,000 from Chinese foreign nationals.”–NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
