Will Jim Mowrer call on House Majority PAC to stay out of IA-03?

June 21, 2016

Now that the primary in IA-03 is over, is Jim Mowrer singing a different tune on “dark money”?

Just two months ago, during a forum between IA-03 Democrats, Jim Mowrer pushed to overturn Citizens United, eliminating “dark money” in politics. This stance is now being tested since House Majority PAC, Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC, just placed an additional $214,000 in TV reservations in Omaha on top of their $319,930 already placed to be spent in Des Moines – both markets covering much of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District. That’s more than $500,000 of “dark money” reserved to ostensibly help Mowrer.

While Jim Mowrer paraded around his stance against “dark money” in the Democratic primary, it looks like he is warming up to the idea as long as the cash will be spent to help him in the general election. Will Jim Mowrer call on House Majority PAC to stay out of IA-03 or will he go back on his campaign rhetoric, proving it was nothing more than a hypocritical political ploy?

NRCC Comment: “Jim Mowrer’s silence on Super PACs participating in IA-03 just goes to show he has no problem with ‘dark money’ as long as it benefits his own campaign. Mowrer should immediately call on House Majority PAC to stay out of the 3rd District race and stand behind what he promised voters during the primary election.” – NRCC Spokesperson Kate Constantini
