Tom Suozzi’s awkward campaign slogan

July 7, 2016

suozziTom Suozzi was thrown out of office as Nassau County Executive in 2009 after he drove the county off a fiscal cliff. It turns out that voters weren’t too fond of his mismanagement of county finances and his love for tax hikes. And now that Suozzi is running for Congress, he’s using the slogan, “Gets It Done.”

So what exactly is Suozzi talking about when he says he “Gets It Done”? Raising the home heating tax by $38 million a year? Maybe he’s talking about when he raised property taxes by 23%. How about when he increased Nassau County’s debt by $402 million and left a $3.45 billion hole when he was booted out of office? Perhaps Suozzi is talking about when he ignored a broken assessment system that led to school tax increases of 84%.  Certainly he isn’t talking about when he took a $65,000 per year taxpayer-funded pay raise, right?

The only thing Taxin’ Tom needs to get done is a reality check.

NRCC Comment: “Tom Suozzi drove Nassau County off a fiscal cliff during his disastrous tenure as county executive. The only accomplishment Tom Suozzi can point to is when he accepted a $65,000 taxpayer-funded pay raise as Nassau County’s finances were going up in flames.” –NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
