BREAKING: Pelosi Meddles In AZ-02 Dem Primary
In a slight to grassroots favorite Victoria Steele, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Nancy Pelosi’s campaign arm, this morning officially endorsed Matt Heinz as their preferred candidate in AZ-02. The DCCC’s decision to back Heinz defies the endorsements of many local Democrats, including Congressman Raul Grijalva, a grassroots champion who backed Steele early on in the race.
Heinz has long been close with Washington insiders, having moved to DC to play a pivotal part in the rollout of Obamacare. Now, because he can’t count on support from local Democrats, Heinz is cashing in on his DC connections in hopes his insider friends can push him across the finish line in his primary.
This desperate attempt by Washington Democrats to help their handpicked candidate comes on the same day Rep. Martha McSally announced she raised nearly $1 million in Q2 and has an astonishing $2.6 million in cash on hand. Heinz has not reported his Q2 numbers, but had just $388,000 in the bank as of the April FEC filing.
