Does Ami Bera think he’d be in Congress if his dad hadn’t broken the law?

August 17, 2016

bera1Does Ami Bera think he’d be in Congress if his dad hadn’t broken the law? Prosecutors have explicitly raised the question while Bera has remained silent on the matter. Per the LA Times:

But they didn’t mince words about the seriousness of the crimes, including the possibility that Rep. Bera wouldn’t be in Congress were it not for his father’s illegal campaign fundraising plan.

Bera’s father will be sentenced tomorrow for illegally funneling nearly $270,000 to his 2010 and 2012 campaigns, and yet Ami has not directly addressed voters on the matter. Does he know how many 7th District voters were persuaded with the illegal funds? Does Bera think his father’s scheme pushed him over the finish line? Will he even admit it had a material impact on his races?

If the voters had known this illegal activity was going on in 2010 and 2012, does Bera think he would have won his incredibly close race in 2014?

NRCC Comment: “Does Ami Bera think he’d be in Congress if his dad hadn’t broken the law? The election process was clearly corrupted by the illegal straw donor scheme that funneled nearly $270,000 to Bera’s campaign, and still he has yet to address how these actions influenced multiple close elections. Voters deserve to hear directly from their Congressman, who was ushered into office with assistance from a pile of illegal campaign cash.”  – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
