Michael Eggman Donor Sentenced To Prison For Election Fraud

August 19, 2016

eggmanYesterday, Michael Eggman donor Babulal Bera was sentenced to prison for felony election fraud. Babulal, father of Congressman Ami Bera, received a sentence of 1 year and 1 day for his part in a crime that involved more than 90 straw donors and funneled nearly $270,000 to his son’s campaign.

Eggman is currently named in an FEC complaint regarding a series of donations between Babulal and the Eggman campaign. According to the Oakdale Leader, “In the five-page complaint letter dated July 26 to the FEC, the organization states, “The actions of Michael Eggman and Respondents enabled illegal contributions to flow through the federal campaign finance system, subverting the government’s compelling interest in proper disclosure  and making a mockery of federal campaign finance law.”

NRCC Comment: “As Michael Eggman faces a formal complaint regarding his fundraising practices and one of his donors heads to prison, voters deserve to know just how Michael Eggman is financing his campaigns. If Michael Eggman is involved in such shady campaign activities now, how can voters trust him if were to be elected to Congress?” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
