ICYMI: Twin Cities TV station pulls ad against Mills

I just wanted to make sure you saw the news that a Twin Cities TV station has pulled the deceptive attack ad being aired in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District by Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC, House Majority PAC.

This marks the third network to pull an ad containing the deceptively edited footage and false claims about Republican candidate Stewart Mills, as two networks pulled a similar ad during the 2014 cycle after being debunked by fact checkers.

NRCC Comment: “It should come as no surprise that this misleading ad from Rick Nolan’s Super PAC allies has been pulled from the airwaves, as it contains deceptively edited footage and false claims that have previously been debunked. Rick Nolan and his Super PAC allies are desperate to change the subject from Nolan’s extreme left-wing record, and are willing to mislead Minnesota voters in an attempt to do so.” – NRCC Spokesman Bob Salera

The Twin Cities CW station WUCW decided to pull an ad against Stewart Mills off the air after national Republicans complained it was inaccurate.

The ad shows Stewart Mills saying he is “personally offended” about tax cuts, but the words were actually spliced together from three separate statements. The ad also claims Mills is against middle class tax cuts citing his past opposition to the Cash for Clunkers program, which is not a middle class tax cut.

Mills is challenging incumbent Democrat Rep. Rick Nolan for his Eighth Congressional District seat. The race is expected to be among the tightest in the country. Some political observers have called Nolan “the most vulnerable Democrat in the House” this cycle.

In a letter to the Mills campaign, WUCW’s director of sales said the station’s legal department advised the ad be pulled off the air.

The ad was part of a massive $350,000 ad buy by the liberal House Majority PAC in the Twin Cities and Duluth television markets. The group did not respond to requests for comment on the WUCW decision to pull it down.
