WASHINGTON – Ami Bera’s vote against the Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act is just another example of House Democrats putting partisan politics ahead of commonsense solutions that strengthen our national security.

The Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act states that it is the policy of the U.S. government not to pay ransom or release prisoners for the purpose of securing the release of U.S. citizens taken hostage abroad, and it generally prohibits the U.S. government from providing further cash payments to the government of Iran.

“Ami Bera’s vote against this bill is putting the policies of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi ahead of strengthening our national security and the safety of American citizens,” said NRCC Communications Director Katie Martin. “House Democrats need to stand against terrorism and enforce our country’s long-standing policy against paying ransom.”
