NRCC Comment: “Can the voters of Virginia’s 10th District really trust someone like LuAnn Bennett, who broke her promise to build a preschool and daycare center to avoid $30 million in taxes? The only way LuAnn Bennett will make the government work is if it is working for her.” –NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack

TELEVISION SCRIPT:

Announcer:

In 1990, Developer LuAnn Bennett made a promise.

Bennett’s connections got her a sweetheart deal on this piece of land.

In return, Bennett had to build a preschool with a daycare center.

But Bennett broke her promise.

Why? Bennett avoided 30 million in taxes.

And the preschool? Never built.

Developer Bennett made the land…a parking lot instead.

LuAnn Bennett. She makes government work…for her.

RADIO SCRIP

Man: Sorry I’m late. Traffic.

Woman: I got plenty of it, too.

Man: Remember that empty lot on H Street NW when you’re getting on 395?

Woman: Yeah, used to say GPO. I’ve spent hours stuck in traffic there.

Man: Tom at work told us the story behind it. Moran’s ex-wife owns it.

Woman: LuAnn Bennett? She’s running for Congress.

Man: Yup. Really connected developer. In the nineties, she got a sweetheart deal on it, and had to build a preschool with daycare center on the land.

Woman: Close to federal buildings, that neighborhood could’ve really used it in the 90s.

Man: Exactly, but she broke her promise to avoid a hefty tax bill.

Woman: She got away with it?

Man: Of course. Connections and stuff.

Woman: So what happened with the preschool?

Man: Developer Luann Bennett never built it. Made it a parking lot instead.

Woman: Useless.

Man: Not for her. She rented it out for five million dollars.

Woman: So Bennett avoids a thirty million dollar tax bill but takes in five million in income?

Man: Pretty much.

Woman: Developer LuAnn Bennett. She makes government work…for her.
