Pete Gallego Touts Endorsement of Registered Sex Offender

October 24, 2016

After losing both the endorsements of the San Antonio Express-News and the El Paso Times, Pete Gallego’s week got even worse when he was forced to scrub his website and social media accounts of the name of a registered sex offender whose endorsement he was touting. From the Express-News:

“…one of Gallego’s endorsements came from a registered sex offender, with an out-of-state conviction for possession with intent to promote child pornography. The endorsement was made in a letter to the editor of a small-town newspaper, and Gallego shared it with the media as evidence of conservative support. A person with the same name is listed on the DPS sex offender registry. Election officials in that rural community said the person on the registry appears to be registered to vote there.”

Apparently Pete Gallego was so desperate to pretend his campaign isn’t circling the drain that he was willing to tout an endorsement from someone listed on the DPS sex offender registry who was convicted of intent to distribute child pornography.

NRCC Comment: “After losing two major endorsements, Pete Gallego was so desperate to save his flailing candidacy that his campaign touted the endorsement of a registered sex offender. While voters and newspapers in the 23rd District are lining up behind Will Hurd, Gallego is left scrambling for anything – or anyone – to pretend his campaign isn’t circling the drain.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
