NRCC Press Secretary Jesse Hunt: The Democratic Party’s Lurch To The Far Left Is Leading To Unelectable Candidates

March 7, 2018

Today, NRCC Press Secretary Jesse Hunt joined NPR’s Morning Edition to discuss the results of the Texas primaries and how he sees them impacting general election strategy. He emphasized just how detrimental Democrats’ dramatic lurch to the left will be come November 2018.

NRCC PRESS SECRETARY JESSE HUNT: Well I think as we’ve seen Democrats, the national organization is trying to prevent candidates from lurching too far to the left, but that’s inevitable because that’s where their base is. Their base is demanding ideological purity and they are forcing these candidates farther to the left to adopt positions like single payer health care that just aren’t tenable with a broader electorate, particularly in Texas. These positions they’re going to take are going to make them unelectable with general election voters.
