Last night Andy Kim officially became the Democratic nominee in NJ-03 – and it’s time for him to clear up his potentially illegal property tax deduction.

In an NJTV interview, Kim was asked why he listed his condo in D.C. as his primary residence and collected a significant tax break on it AFTER he moved to NJ-03. Kim responded by claiming he did nothing wrong.

If that’s true, why did he pay it back?

  • Kim registered to vote in New Jersey on May 10, 2017
  • He voted in New Jersey and announced his campaign in June, 2017
  • Then he took the D.C. tax break in September, 2017 – four months after he registered to vote in NJ
  • Washington, D.C. law states that residents must inform the Office of Tax & Revenue that their primary residence has changed within 30 days

Given this troubling timeline, Andy Kim should immediately back up his claim by providing evidence of the date that he informed the Washington, D.C., Office of Tax & Revenue that D.C. was no longer his primary residence.
