this is…shocking

August 22, 2018

This morning, The Anderson News published a transcript of a shockingly tone-deaf interview that Amy McGrath did on the Larry Glover Show, where she came out in favor of terminating a pregnancy up to the 9th month.

We don’t have to rely on Amy McGrath’s words at out of state fundraisers to know that she is “further left than anybody in the state of Kentucky.” We can also rely on her words in in-state interviews.

From the Anderson News:

Barr takes McGrath to task on abortion issue

Congressman Andy Barr (R-Lexington) renewed during an interview last week his criticisms of his opponent in this fall’s general election, Amy McGrath (D-Georgetown), including that she doesn’t oppose abortion up the ninth month of pregnancy.

Pressed during the interview to provide specifics on the allegation, Barr cited a radio interview conducted by a Lexington talk show host just before McGrath’s primary win in May, during which a caller broaches the subject of abortions and the host, Larry Glover of “Larry Glover Live” on 590 WVLK, presses her on the issue.

Barr’s campaign provided The Anderson News with an online link to a recording of the show, which the paper confirmed is legitimate.

On the audio link, a caller claims Republicans are pushing for a ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and asks if McGrath will oppose “extreme Republican attacks” on a woman’s right to choose.

“I am pro-choice,” said McGrath. “I believe it’s a personal liberty issue, flat out. I don’t think the government should be involved in making decisions …”

“So, you don’t think there should be any limitations at all,” Glover, the show’s host, interjected.

“I don’t think the government should be involved in making decisions about a woman’s body,” she said.

“So, you think a woman on her way to the hospital to give birth should be able to abort it instead?” Glover asks.

“I don’t think government should be involved in a woman’s right to choose,” McGrath countered.

“What about the rights of the unborn child,” Glover asks. “This is a personal issue for me.”

“I respect that,” said McGrath, “but I don’t think the government should be involved in forcing a woman to do something with her body. Honestly, the conservative Roberts Supreme Court has upheld a woman’s right to choose.”

“But doctors say at 20 weeks, a child feels pain in the womb,” Glover said.

“I don’t have anything to go at you against that, except to say that government should not be involved … you should not be involved … you should not tell a woman what she can or can’t do with her body,” McGrath said.

“Are you going to force her now to carry that child? You’re going to be the one to make that decision? This is a personal choice.”

Glover went on to explain that doctors discovered his daughter at 20 weeks had what he described as club feet.

“We also saw her sucking her thumb and we know she feels pain,” he said. “In my view, she’s a person.

“When does the life of an unborn child deserve to be protected? What I hear you saying is when they’re born.”

“Well, I personally believe … I’m Catholic, OK? What I believe and what I could do in my life I can’t force on people.”

“But we have laws that restrict certain behaviors,” Glover said.

“In America, we also have a strong tradition of personal liberty, and for government to come in and say to a woman we are going to tell you what you need to do with your body … and not have the decision be between a woman and her spouse and her doctor …”

“But should the government protect the life of an unborn child,” Glover asked?

“I believe that we should protect a woman’s right to choose,” McGrath said. “It’s her choice, it’s not yours. It hers.”

“But the unborn child doesn’t have a voice, and I think people should stand up for the unborn child,” Glover said.

“I disagree with you,” McGrath said. “It’s the mother’s choice and it’s her body. And until you want to carry a child, it’s your choice if it’s your body. But it’s her body.”

Barr said that’s evidence enough for him to stand by his statement that McGrath supports abortion up to the ninth month.
