tired out, ready to snooze

October 1, 2018

Barack Obama just released his second round of endorsements for the 2018 cycle. He endorsed 20 candidates running for office in Florida.

Strangely missing from this list? Donna Shalala.

I wonder if the fact that the matchup between Donna Shalala and Maria Elvira Salazar has been described as “sleep mode vs. beast mode” has anything to do with this glaring omission. Or the fact that Shalala is casually down in the polls by 9 points, in a district that Hillary Clinton won by 20 points.

A list of articles Obama must have read before deciding to snub her:

  • Politico: Democrats fear Shalala campaign is in ‘sleep mode’ while challenger surges
  • Miami Herald: Polls suggest a tough race for Donna Shalala for Miami congressional seat
  • Florida Politics: Internal poll has Maria Elvira Salazar ahead in CD 27 GOP primary
  • Sunshine State News: Donna Shalala’s Sure-Thing of a Race Has Turned into a Tossup
  • CNN: One CNN Key Race moved toward Republicans, but it is not about the money
  • WPLG: Race to replace Ros-Lehtinen now a toss-up, influential report says: Experts say Shalala’s lack of Spanish language skills has hurt her
  • The Hill: Former TV journalist gives GOP rare dose of hope in Florida

“Fired up. Ready to go”? More like “Tired out. Ready to snooze.”
