OPINION — My grandfather’s Democratic Party is officially dead.
The embrace of socialism has become the official stance of the Democratic Party and poses a direct threat to every American.
Nancy Pelosi is desperate to minimize the socialists who have taken over her caucus. She wants us to believe the new socialist Democratic Party is only a small group of four people dubbed “the squad.” Unfortunately for Pelosi, the socialist Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are not limited to a squad — they are a red army of socialists committed to pushing this country as far left as possible.
And to think we once thought Pelosi was the radical left in what was once the Democratic Party.
Thanks to the new socialist Democratic Party, gone are the days when Republicans and Democrats argued about the size and scope of government versus the right of individuals to self-determine, and where to draw the line between those two points of view.
The socialist Democrats who now control the House have made it clear they are here to destroy the free America that we love. I know this is hard to accept, but don’t take my word for it — look at the actions coming from the socialist Democrats who are dead-set on turning over our health care and economic systems to government control.
God bless Pelosi for trying to cauterize the political cancer that is destroying her party, but Americans are smart. We will not be misled by her.
The inconvenient truth for Pelosi is that voters will hold every one of her 235-member caucus accountable for their anti-American policies. If any member of her caucus remains silent on their party’s radical socialist agenda, they are complicit and will be held responsible for the socialist Democrats’ efforts to destroy the constitutional freedoms our nation was founded on.
Voters already saw what’s at stake when every single Democratic presidential candidate proudly raised their hand in support of “free” health care for illegal immigrants — an image that will be repeated nonstop until 2020.
But the insanity hasn’t stopped there.
The so-called presidential candidates that want to run against President Donald Trump in 2020 have endorsed a litany of radical socialist ideas from decriminalizing illegal immigration to eliminating private health insurance to raising taxes on the middle class.
And the socialist Democrats in the House are in lockstep with their misguided presidential candidates.
Ninety-four of them have co-sponsored the socialist ‘Green New Deal,’ which Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff recently all but admitted is an effort to destroy our economy as we know it and give government the power to control basic choices such as what car you can drive, what food you can eat and what house you can live in.
When it comes to health care, 117 socialist Democrats support a proposal for socialized medicine that will abolish private health insurance and force every man, woman and child into a government-run, bureaucratic nightmare.
It is our job to remind voters every single day how each of these dangerous policies will impact their daily lives.
Perhaps most insulting of all, not a single socialist Democrat has had the courage to call for the removal of Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, despite her engaging in multiple anti-Semitic attacks.
Again, Pelosi’s problem with socialism is far larger than a four-member squad that she would like to use as a scapegoat. They are not a squad, they are a red army of socialists.
To quote my counterpart at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, “Silence is complicity.”
To the extent someone claims to be a “moderate,” unless they have the courage to stand up and speak out publicly against infanticide, anti-Semitism and the complete government takeover of private enterprise, they are all socialists now, and we will make sure the voters are well aware of what that means in November 2020.
