(KNSI) – A candidate seeking the Republican endorsement in Minnesota seventh congressional district has just set a fundraising record.

Former Lt. Governor and State Senator Michelle Fischbach of Paynesville raised more than $364,000 in the last quarter of 2019, a record for a Republican in the district in a non-election year.

She’s hoping to take the seat held by Minnesota’s longest-serving congressman Collin Peterson who’s represented the area for 29 years as he nears the end of his 15th term.

Fischbach was a guest on KNSI’s Ox in the Afternoon and says She believes that the district can go to the Republicans in 2020.

“It’s the number one pickup opportunity for the House Republicans this year, and I think people see the importance of making sure this seat flips Republican because there is no reason it’s not. It’s a 30 plus point Trump district.”

She says the people of the 7th district deserve a different type of leadership.

“These folks are good conservatives, and they deserve a good conservative who will go to Washington and represent them.”

Fischbach says she thinks she’s been so successful fundraising so far because of her name recognition and because she has a track record of getting things done for the state.

Congressman Peterson hasn’t officially announced if he’s running for another term.

Republican Dave Hughes is also running for the endorsement in the seventh district.
