Porter blocking police funding

September 20, 2022

Smash and grabs are becoming more common in Orange County, but Katie Porter still won’t support increased police funding.

Porter, vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is blocking legislation to increase funding for local police departments.

The funding would allow for “hiring more police officers, increasing salaries, investing in officer safety and training and body cameras, as well as mental health resources for officers.”

The CPC’s stance is that “it would provide a blank check to police departments,” and they believe “[t]he answer is not just putting more money in.”
