NRCC Statement on FL-27 Democrats’ Race to the Left

February 22, 2024

With the entrance of Mike Davey into the FL-27 congressional race, there is now a bloody primary brewing on the Democrat side of the aisle.

This is following a larger trend of nasty Democratic primaries dragging candidates to the left and out of the mainstream.

“No matter which extreme Democrat nominee wins their race-to-the-left primary, they will be left bruised, broke, and baggage-laden. Meanwhile, Maria Salazar is delivering proven, bipartisan results for voters in South Florida, and they will re-elect her in November.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar

Background:

  • According to Cook Political, FL-27 is “Solid Republican,” citing “Democrats’ Cuban problems” for why Salazar won by 15 points in 2022.
  • Democrats are losing Hispanics across the country over the past 3 years, giving Republicans an edge is districts like FL-27, where the population is 74% Hispanic.
