Last week was challenging for Mondaire Jones, who is running to reclaim his seat in Congress representing New York’s 17th District in the lower Hudson Valley.

Jones angered progressives when he endorsed Westchester County Executive George Latimer in the Democratic primary in the neighboring 16th District…In response, the House Progressive Caucus severed ties with Jones, the Working Families Party rescinded its support of him in the upcoming election and fellow “Squad” member U.S. Rep. Cori Bush called the endorsement “disgusting.”

Then on Friday, City & State published a story upending the two-year narrative that Jones was kicked out of his home district in 2022 by Sean Patrick Maloney, who represented the 18th Congressional District before New York’s congressional maps were redrawn. City & State cited five sources, including a former staffer, claiming Maloney offered to bow out of the race, but Jones declined to run in the 17th District because it was seen as tougher for Democrats.

“My progressive values have not changed, and I’ve yet to see anyone point to a way in which they have changed.”

“I think this president has been the most progressive president in modern history…It’s why I hope people unify after these primaries are over and understand that if they are true progressives, it will be critically important to not just return Joe Biden to the White House but to take back the House and hold on to the Senate so we can build on the progressive work we started last time, which I was proud to be part of.”
