NEW VIDEO: Kristen McDonald Rivet Runs Into Oncoming Traffic to Ignore 270k Michiganders Without Representation

June 13, 2025

A new video shows out of touch Kristen McDonald Rivet running into oncoming traffic to avoid answering a question regarding the fact that more than 270,000 Michiganders are still left without representation.

After McDonald Rivet bailed on her constituents in her state legislature district to get a promotion, Governor Whitmer has refused to call a special election to fill the seat.

After 160 days, this is by far the longest time frame in Governor Whitmer’s tenure between a State Senate seat vacancy and a special election announcement, yet self-serving Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet remains silent.

“Out of touch Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet’s cowardly silence is a slap in the face to the 270,000 Michiganders still without representation. Her decision to literally flee through traffic instead of standing up and demanding action for her constituents isn’t just disgraceful, it’s proof she’s completely unfit to hold public office.” – NRCC spokesman Zach Bannon

U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet appeared visibly shaken when approached June 7 on a Saginaw street corner after an unidentified male affiliated with Restore MI Voice asked her about her former state Senate seat.

Rather than respond, Rivet bolted into the street as a “do not walk” sign was displayed.

For the past 160 days, residents of the 35th District have been without representation in the state Senate, which is the longest time in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s tenure that she she has not called a special election for a state Senate seat vacancy.

“It is the governor’s prerogative to call that election,” Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist told the Detroit News at last month’s Detroit Regional Chamber’s policy conference on Mackinac Island. “And I think that people are certainly ready for it. I think that people in the district are ready for it. I’ve spent time in the district. They’re ready for it.”

The Tri-County district comprised of Midland, Bay, and Saginaw counties delivered a 54.8% victory for Republican President Donald Trump in November.

A special election that leaned Republican would result in a 19-19 tie with Democrats in the upper chamber, altering the current 19-18 Democratic majority. A Republican win would mean another legislative setback for Whitmer, after Democrats lost their first Democratic government trifecta since the 1980s.

Rivet has steadfastly remained silent on the vacancy of her former seat.

“Out of touch Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet’s cowardly silence is a slap in the face to the 270k Michiganders still without representation,” National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Zach Bannon told The Midwesterner in an email. “Her decision to literally flee through traffic instead of standing up and demanding action for her constituents isn’t just disgraceful, it’s proof she’s completely unfit to hold public office.”
