“What we need to make sure we do is have the least amount of regulations so that our farmers can do what they do best, and that is to produce the finest quality food in the entire world including our cranberries,” Van Orden said during the visit.
The congressman emphasized the critical role agriculture plays in Wisconsin’s economy and identity. Wisconsin leads the world in cranberry production, making the state a powerhouse in this specialized agricultural sector.
Van Orden’s visit comes as Congress continues to work on various pieces of agricultural legislation that could impact farmers across the country. His position on the House Agriculture Committee gives him significant influence over policies that affect rural communities and agricultural producers.
The cranberry industry represents a significant economic driver for Wisconsin, with the state producing the majority of the nation’s cranberries. The fruit requires specific growing conditions and expertise that Wisconsin farmers have perfected over generations.
