Suozzi and Gillen’s Shutdown Jeopardizes Nutrition Assistance

October 9, 2025

Out of touch Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen voted to shut down the government, putting the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program in jeopardy for mothers and children across New York.

In response to Democrats’ reckless shutdown, President Trump announced that his administration will use tariff revenue to cover the funding gap and ensure no mother or child goes hungry. While Democrats play politics, President Trump is delivering real leadership and keeping vital programs running.

“Instead of keeping the government open and protecting programs that feed moms and kids, out of touch Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen chose politics over people. While Democrats play games, President Trump has pledged to use tariff revenue to ensure no child goes hungry; proving once again Republicans deliver solutions while Democrats deliver shutdowns.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole
