President Donald Trump signed the Military Helicopter Training Safety Act into law today, a step he says will work toward improving aviation safety following the tragic collision between a military helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet that occurred in January.
The bill, introduced by Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07), aims to install crash avoidance technology in military helicopters as part of a broader effort to prevent future mid-air crashes.
The legislation was included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, further emphasizing its significance.
In March, Barrett introduced the Military Helicopter Training Safety Act (H.R. 1898) after the January incident, which resulted in 67 deaths.
