Michigan Democratic Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet voted against national legislation that would require the use of voter ID and measures to ensure election integrity.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, passed the U.S. House on Wednesday, and now heads to the U.S. Senate.

While the majority of Democratic Congressional members voted against the bill, a majority of Americans in both parties support voter ID and other measures to keep elections secure.

A poll from Pew Research found that 83% of Americans support requiring an ID to vote in elections, including 71% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans. A separate poll from Gallup found that 83% of Americans support requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote for the first time.
