Things go from Bad to Worse for Don Davis

March 12, 2026

The bad news keeps coming for do-nothing Don Davis. After National Journal ranked him as one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the country last week, Inside Elections just moved the NC-01 race from “Tilt Republican” to “Lean Republican.”

The change comes less than a day after Republican candidate Laurie Buckhout earnedPresident Trump’s endorsement.

Davis is in trouble for a number of reasons:

  • President Trump enjoys broad support in Eastern North Carolina, winning Davis’s district by double digits in 2024.
  • Despite his district’s support for the President, Davis has tried to obstruct the America First agenda by voting to hike North Carolina families’ taxes and block critical support for North Carolina farmers.
  • Davis also voted to shut down the government last year, potentially delaying critical funding for communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.
  • He even refused to protect North Carolina families, voting “PRESENT” on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

“Republicans are on offense and ready to win in Eastern North Carolina. This fall, voters will reject out of touch Democrat Don Davis’s broken promises, partisan games, and radical agenda and replace him with Laurie Buckhout.” – NRCC Spokesman Reilly Richardson
