NRCC Releases Historic Battleground Polling in Texas’ 34th District

May 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the first time this cycle, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) publicly released internal battleground polling in Texas’ 34th District, offering an early snapshot of a favorable national political landscape for House Republicans and the growing problems confronting vulnerable House Democrats.

The NRCC surveyed likely general election voters in Texas’ 34th District,  which was carried by President Trump in 2024. The polling shows:

  • Eric Flores already has the edge over Vicente Gonzalez in the race for TX-34. Flores leads nine-year incumbent, Gonzalez, 41% to 40% on the named ballot.
  • Almost half of voters (45%) do not know who Vicente Gonzalez is.
  • Vicente Gonzalez faces an uphill climb in the current political environment. The Generic Ballot is R+4%, and 51% of voters prefer the Trump agenda over that of the Biden agenda. Gonzalez will be tied to the Democratic Party, which is -17% on its image.

“Democrats are watching the ground shift beneath their feet in South Texas. Voters are looking for new leadership that actually reflects the values and priorities of South Texas, and they’re moving past out of touch Vicente Gonzalez, who has spent nearly a decade in Washington serving himself while fighting against lower taxes, a strong border, and the economic opportunity South Texas families are demanding, all things Eric Flores will deliver.” – NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez
