NRCC and NRSC Applaud Supreme Court Victory for First Amendment in NRSC v. FEC
NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) and NRSC Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) today applauded the Supreme Court’s decisive ruling in National Republican Senatorial Committee et al. v. Federal Election Commission, a victory for the First Amendment that strikes down unconstitutional limits on coordinated party spending. The Court held that federal restrictions capping how much political parties may spend in coordination with their own candidates violate the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech.
“This is a decisive First Amendment victory and a major win for the integrity of our political system. The Supreme Court made clear that the federal government has no authority to place arbitrary limits on how political parties support the candidates they nominate. By striking down these unconstitutional caps on coordinated spending, the Court has restored core political speech and ensured parties can compete on a level playing field. We are ready to fully support our candidates and put them in the strongest possible position to win in 2026 and beyond.”
Background:
With this decision, national party committees are no longer bound by arbitrary federal caps that limited how much they could coordinate with and support their own nominees. The ruling removes outdated restrictions that constrained parties in competitive races and undermined core political speech. Going forward, committees will be able to fully support their candidates without unconstitutional limits imposed by the federal government.
