Lansing DSA Started at Socialist William Lawrence’s House
It’s no surprise that Socialist William Lawrence hosted the Lansing DSA founding meeting in his living room.
Self described Socialist, William Lawrence, is a radical far-left liberal who is all-in for the DSA agenda which includes abolishing the police, prisons, and borders.

“Socialist William Lawrence is a far-left liberal who helped start and spread the radical Democrat Socialists of America agenda. William Lawrence continues to prove he is too extreme for Mid-Michigan.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Bannon

The Lansing Democratic Socialists of America held its founding meeting at a house at the same time Democratic congressional nominee William Lawrence lived there, according to an attendee.
The account adds another layer to Lawrence’s history with the socialist organization just weeks after he allowed his own DSA membership to lapse.
Jessica Newman recalled the chapter’s beginnings during an Aug. 10 episode of the MIRS Monday podcast.
“But I was at the founding meeting of Lansing-DSA in his living room, right?” Newman said. “So there’s people who have been in and around this movement.”
A source close to Lawrence told MIRS that Lawrence rented a room in the house but did not organize or host the meeting. Other residents of the house organized the gathering, the source claimed.
Lawrence later became a DSA member and entered the Democratic primary affiliated with the organization.
That affiliation changed shortly before the Aug. 4 Democratic primary.
After winning the nomination, Lawrence told CNN’s Manu Raju that he had allowed his DSA membership to lapse “in the last month.”
“I got a lot of respect for DSA and the work that they are doing around the country,” Lawrence said, “but felt the need to make it very clear the platform that we’re running on here is the one that has come up based on the conversations we’re having across the 7th District.”
Raju pressed Lawrence on what specifically separated his politics from those of DSA.
Lawrence did not identify a disagreement.
