National Journal: NC-01 is Primed to Flip

Another day, another national outlet confirming what we already know: do-nothing Don Davis is losing his seat.

National Journal just named NC-01 a top GOP pickup opportunity. The Hill put it on its list of Democrat seats most likely to flip, and Cook Political Report calls Davis “without a doubt, the most vulnerable House Democrat in the country.”

Davis barely survived in 2024, winning by less than two points in a district Trump carried by three. Retired Army Colonel Laurie Buckhout came within 6,000 votes of beating Davis on friendlier ground for him, and the new NC-01 is far worse for him. Trump would have won it by 11 points, and Davis’s own hometown of Snow Hill was drawn out of the district entirely.

Davis voted against the Working Families Tax Cut’s relief for Eastern North Carolina families, farmers, and seniors and refused to take a stand to protect women and girls’ sports.
