Will Darrel Aubertine Run For Congress?

With a Job Killing, Tax-and-Spend Record in the NY Senate, David Paterson Sure Hopes He Doesn’t

Washington– As speculation swirls around whether or not State Senator Darrel Aubertine will run for Congress, there is at least one person we know who hopes he doesn’t – New York Governor David Paterson. Since Aubertine was elected to the State Senate, he has been a reliable vote for Paterson’s dangerous tax-and-spend agenda which has left New Yorkers to foot the enormous bill during the current economic crisis.

Just this year, the Governor’s office, with his Democratic majority in the State Senate, rammed through a budget that contained the biggest tax increase in the history of New York State.

As explained by an editorial writer for the New York Daily News, the budget that was passed with Aubertine’s full support would further cripple New York’s residents:

“Cobbled together in unprecedented secrecy, this monstrosity hikes taxes and fees not just on the rich, but on every New Yorker who has health insurance, pays utility bills, drinks wine or beer or buys bottled water…

“Albany Democrats went on a spending binge in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

“…they perpetrated the biggest tax increase in state history – adding at least $5 billion, and probably more like $8 billion, to what is already one of the very heaviest state and local tax burdens in the country…

“…they canceled school-tax rebates for middle-class homeowners while doing nothing to control spiraling property levies.” (Bill Hammond, “Democrats will pay for this: Their awful budget gives the GOP perfect political ammo,” Daily News, 03/31/2009)

“With Darrel Aubertine voting in lockstep with David Paterson’s reckless spending agenda, it’s no wonder why Paterson wouldn’t want to lose such a reliable vote in the State Senate,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “The last thing central and northern New Yorkers need is one of Paterson’s puppets morphing into one of Pelosi’s puppets as Congress continues to tax and spend at a reckless rate.”
