Moving the goalposts: “Everyone’s taxes will go up”

February 12, 2018

What’s the definition of hypocrisy?

Democrats making false claims leading up to tax reform’s passage simply because the law – which benefits millions of Americans – would reaffirm voters’ faith in the Republican agenda.

In a last-ditch effort to kill the bill’s final version, Chuck Schumer fabricated the following claims:

“Substantively, the Republicans have managed to take a bad bill and make it worse,” Schumer said. “It was chock-full of special-interest giveaways before tonight, but under the cover of darkness and with the aid of haste, a flurry of last-minute changes will stuff even more money into the pockets of the wealthy and the biggest corporations while raising taxes on millions in the middle class.”

In fact, tax reform has already begun easing the cost of living for millions of middle class Americans by taking less money out of their paychecks and through the bonuses and raises hundreds of companies have announced.

Come April 15th, working class American families will feel tax reform’s positive impact even more than in its initial onset. We’re left wondering – how is it fair for Democrats to continue moving the goalposts on legislation that benefits Americans in every tax bracket?
