Max Rose’s New York Vol. 7
New York House Republicans sent a letter urging state officials to “completely reverse” the 2019 law that ended cash bail requirements for many criminal charges.
But progressive activists are insisting that regardless of Gov. Hochul’s budget, the fight over cashless bail will continue.
Meanwhile:
- The woman who was bludgeoned with a hammer on the subway in February “blamed the harrowing experience on the state’s soft-on-crime bail reforms.”
- The NYPD’s new anti-gun unit has netted more than 100 arrests since it launched last month – and nearly 70% of those busted have a prior criminal history.
- Hundreds of New York City prosecutors have quit their jobs in recent years, claiming burnout in part because of bail reform.
NRCC Comment: “New Yorkers understand the simple facts: defunding the police led to a crime spike in New York and cashless bail puts more criminals back on the street. Max Rose is on the wrong side of this issue.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Samantha Bullock
