KINGSTON, Pa. — Riding shotgun in a police cruiser, Congressman Rob Bresnahan got an up-close look at the challenges Kingston police officers face every single day. The ride marked a major milestone for the Kingston Police Department.
More than $1.1 million in federal money was secured for the department after it stalled for years, Bresnahan pushing the funding toward the finish line.
“One of the first conversations chief and I had, I’m not sure if i was even sworn into office yet, but we talked about the need, the size of the growing community, the kinds of crime and the kinds of law enforcement challenges that they’re dealing with and we prioritized it coming in on a day one,” said Congressman Rob Bresnahan, (R) 8th Congressional District.
All that money will go towards several sets of new wheels for the force. As Kingston Police Chief Rich Kotchik says, keeping cars on the road has been a constant battle. “As a town, you’re buying one car a year, you’re trying to fit it into your budgets. After so many years, they’re running 24 hours a day, they’re depleted. I’m looking at some of our cars now, I’m spending thousands in repairs. This is going to be a game-changer for the department.”
Technology upgrades will also help connect the officers to the community.
“As a former police sergeant, I know firsthand how important it is to have the tools and resources to serve people effectively,” said Mayor Jeff Coslett (D), Kingston.

But it’s not just about cars and computers, this money is an impact that will reach far beyond the investment.
“It means we made a difference, and it’s about supporting those who protect us every single day with tangible investments. These are responsible, prudent utilizations of taxpayers’ dollars that this is going to be the betterment of 10,000 residents right here in Kingston,” said Bresnahan.
