“Backwater” Bohannan

July 29, 2026

In a newly unearthed video, Christina Bohannan claimed that an Iowa bill to protect girls’ sports was unnecessary and even went so far to say:“That is really damaging to people and sends a very bad message about our state that’s going to make the state look like a backwater.”

Bohannan’s comments came as the Iowa legislature considered legislation to keep biological men from competeing in girls’ sports and protect women’s locker rooms. Bohannan ultimately voted no on the bill.

This is part of a clear pattern. Bohannan has repeatedly attacked Iowa and its commonsense policies whenever they conflict with her liberal agenda. Earlier this year, she came under fire for arguing Iowa would be viewed as “backward” without diversity training. Whether it’s protecting girls’ sports or pushing DEI, Bohannan has consistently been out of step with Iowa voters.

“Liberal Christina Bohannan didn’t just vote against protecting girls’ sports, she mocked Iowans for standing up for women and girls. Bohannan has made it clear she’s for they/them, not Iowa families.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Emily Tuttle
