The 35 Biggest Democrat Fails Of 2013

December 17, 2013

HEADER-Year_In_Democrat_Failures

Well, 2013 is almost over. But before we raise a glass of bubbly, it’s time to look back at the year that was…

We’ve had robo-squirrels, trillion-dollar coins, and one giant “train wreck,” but there’s simply no better way to measure a year than in Democrat failures.

Here are some of the best, from Sean Eldridge trying to buy a seat in Congress; Nancy Pelosi denying our country has a spending problem;  Erin Bilbray calling a U.S. Army Reservist “un-American;” and President Obama apologizing for his own misleading statements.

Here are (in no particular order) The 35 Biggest Democrat Fails Of 2013.

35. Obama Apologizes For “If You Like It, You Can Keep It” Lie

After misleading Americans for years, the truth finally caught up to President Obama. When it became clear that all Americans couldn’t  keep their current insurance, he issued an apology in an interview with NBC News.

34. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: “All Of Our Candidates” Will Run On ObamaCare In 2014.

You heard it straight from the mouth of the DNC Chairwoman: Democrats across the country will be accountable for the raised premiums, canceled plans, and lost wages that ObamaCare has brought to millions of Americans.

33. Sean Eldridge Attempting To Buy A Seat In Congress

What’s there left to do when you’re a multimillionaire, who counts Nancy Pelosi as a “close, personal friend?” Run for Congress, of course. Sean Eldridge and his Super PAC are attempting to do just that in upstate New York. He finally found a district that he likes, but finding actual voters there who like him is proving a much harder task.

32. Convicted Child Molester Headlines Martha Robertson Fundraiser

Yarrow_Peter-March271970

Staying in the Empire State, NY-23 congressional candidate Martha Robertson came under fire earlier this year for having convicted child molester Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame) headline a campaign fundraiser. Robertson was more concerned with raising a few quick bucks than showing any sense of decency.

31. Patrick Murphy’s “Gross” Hypocrisy

Earlier this year, Florida Congressman Patrick Murphy appeared in a Super PAC infomercial thanking his liberal millionaire pals for the victory. He credited the special interest cash as making “a big difference” in his campaign. In 2012 however, he was singing a different tune as he railed against outside money in politics and called it “gross.”

30. NH Rep. Annie Kuster: “I’m Certainly Not Here To Talk About” Benghazi

This uncomfortable moment where the Democrat Congresswoman tried three times to avoid a question from a constituent on Benghazi quickly went viral.

29. That Time The ObamaCare Website Crashed In Front Of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

Oops.

28. President Obama: “Obviously, We Didn’t Do A Good Enough Job In Terms Of How We Crafted” ObamaCare

We couldn’t agree more.

27. Nick Rahall: “If You Like Your Plan, You Can Keep It”

Well, look at this. It seems that longtime West Virginia Congressman Nick Rahall spread the same lie that President Obama did when selling ObamaCare. Who’s going to tell the 8,800 West Virginians who saw their current insurance canceled, that if they like their plans, they can keep them?

26. Joe Garcia Embroiled In Ballot Fraud Scheme and His Chief of Staff Gets Sent To Jail

joegarcia

Earlier this summer, Florida Congressman Joe Garcia became embroiled in a ballot fraud scheme involving several current and former staffers. His former chief of staff Jeffrey Garcia (no relation) plead guilty to absentee ballot fraud and was sent to jail.

25. Domenic Recchia: Married To The Mob?

Recchia.Bill_

It’s not often that a candidate for Congress (on the DCCC’s JumpStart program no less) writes a letter of recommendation for a mobster. But it’s not often you see candidates as shady as Domenic Recchia.  The New York Daily News reported that Recchia has “written to a federal judge seeking leniency for a reputed Colombo mobster who will be sentenced this month for money laundering and illegal gambling.” But get this – it’s not just any mobster that Recchia is going to bat for – it is the son-in-law of official Colombo crime boss Carmine Persico.

24. Cheri Bustos Skips Vote To Fund Troops So She Can Campaign With Obama

Bustos Obama

In July, the House voted on and passed the Department of Defense appropriations bill. This bill will fund our troops in the field, fund our national defense priorities, fund military health care, and give a pay increase to our troops as well as a slew of other important funding for our military personnel. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos was a no show for the vote however. Instead, Bustos was flying around on Air Force One campaigning with President Obama. I guess she made her priorities clear…

23. Illinois Congressman “Fostering” The War On Women

Illinois Congressman Bill Foster must not be too happy that a female candidate stepped up to run against him because he is actually accused Darlene Senger, a woman, of being anti-woman… Thanks to Mr. Foster’s outrageous claims that a woman could be anti-woman, it looks like a perfect time to revisit Bill’s own anti-woman past which involves a history of abuse with his ex-wife.

22. Nancy Pelosi: We Don’t Have A Spending Problem

You just have to go back to earlier this year to find this quote of Nancy Pelosi denying our country’s spending problem.

21. Steny Hoyer: We Don’t Have A Spending Problem, We Have A Paying-For Problem

Shortly after Nancy Pelosi made her “spending problem” gaffe, her Democrat deputy made his own. Steny Hoyer claimed our country doesn’t have a spending problem, it has a “paying-for” problem. No wonder these Democrats can’t balance the budget…

20. Dems Secret Plan To Raise The Debt Ceiling: A Trillion-Dollar Coin

ObamaCoin

Remember this genius idea? Democrats were so desperate to keep their free-spending ways, some actually proposed we raise the debt ceiling by using a trillion-dollar platinum coin.

19. Eric Holder Flies On Luxury Jets, As Federal Workers Are Furloughed

While federal workers were being furloughed, CNN reported Attorney General Eric Holder was busy taking luxury jets around the country. What’s that about there being nothing in the federal budget left to cut?

18. Alan Grayson Compares The Tea Party To The KKK

alan grayson tea party

Well, the member who called a woman a “K street whore” and said Republicans want Americans to “die quickly” is at it again. In an October fundraising email, Grayson compared the Tea Party to the Ku Klux Klan and showed an image where the word “Tea Party” was spelled with a burning cross.

17. Local News Anchor Rips Collin Peterson: “Guess What? You Work For The People”

Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson came under fire over the summer for repeatedly avoiding the press. It even caused one newscaster to lash out and remind him that he works for the people.

16. Democrat Congressman Blames Conservative Groups For Bringing IRS Scrutiny On Themselves

When conservative groups that were inappropriately targeted by the IRS appeared before the House Ways and Means Committee, liberal Congressman Jim McDermott used the time to give them a piece of his mind. He actually blamed the groups for bringing the scrutiny onto themselves. He was later criticized by members of both parties.

15. Democrat Congresswoman Janice Hahn: ObamaCare Will Improve Marriages

Over the summer, the California congresswoman unleashed this head-scratcher of a claim. So will the Obama administration’s next claim be “If you like your marriage, you can keep it…?”

14. Rep. Tim Walz Votes Against Funding Veterans, Then Whines About NRCC Press Release

In the fall, Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz voted against a measure that would restore funding for our veterans. When the NRCC rightly called him out for his shameful vote, he actually complained about it in a congressional hearing.

13. Nancy Pelosi: There Are No More Spending Cuts To Make

Yet another unbelievable Nancy Pelosi quote. In a federal government full of robo-squirrels and climate change musicals, there’s apparently nothing left to cut.

12. Jay Carney Admits President Obama’s Budget Will Never, Ever Balance

It took Jay Carney awhile, earlier this year, to admit the obvious: that President Obama’s budget would never, ever balance. For all their talk of a “balanced plan”, Democrats couldn’t even be bothered to introduce one themselves. Only House Republicans were responsible enough to propose a plan that actually balances the budget.

11. Running On ObamaCare Scares Highly-Touted Democrat Recruit Pete Festersen Out Of Race After Only 2 Months

festersen

Pete Festersen announced his campaign for Congress in October after being heavily recruited by the DCCC and even Vice President Biden. His few months on the trail were notable however. As the implementation of ObamaCare became a massive disaster, Festersen refused interviews and wouldn’t take a stand. With the walls closing in around him thanks to President Obama’s healthcare law, he dropped out of the race in mid-December.

10. White House Finally Admits Americans May Not Be Able To Keep Insurance Plan If They Like It

After years of making promises many of us knew they couldn’t keep, the White House finally admitted that Americans couldn’t keep their current plans, if they liked them.

9. Kyrsten Sinema Causes One Awkward Faculty Meeting

sinema

The associate faculty at Arizona State University will see their hours cut thanks to ObamaCare. That’s why it might be a little awkward for Congresswoman and ASU professor Kyrsten Sinema next time she steps on campus. Sinema helped craft the failed law and campaigned around the state to drum up support. Turns out, she simply sold Arizonans a bill of goods.

8. After Calling Medicare A “Sacred Bond With Seniors,” DCCC Steve Israel Touts $700 Billion In Cuts

Earlier this year, DCCC Chairman Steve Israel appeared on CNN and touted the $700 billion in Medicare cuts in ObamaCare. What made it even more galling was that not even a year prior, Israel was describing Medicare as a “sacred bond with seniors that cannot be broken.”

7. Nancy Pelosi: The Implementation [Of ObamaCare] Is Fabulous

Pelosi Gavel

This unbelievable statement from Nancy Pelosi turned into an instant classic. She actually said the implementation was “fabulous” when millions were losing their healthcare plans, seeing rising premiums, or losing hours and wages. It’s these types of rosy statements about ObamaCare that make you wonder if she’s picked up a newspaper in the last year.

6. Ann Kirkpatrick Goes AWOL?

IMG-Pelosi_Kirkpatrick

Arizona Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick really wanted to be back in Congress – but just a few weeks back in DC, she had already let Arizonans down again. As the Arizona Republic reported, Kirkpatrick  missed 16 votes in the House – in just the first month.

5. Erin Bilbray Calls U.S. Army Reservist And Congressman Joe Heck “Un-American”

In a fall interview with Nevada reporter Jon Ralston, congressional candidate Erin Bilbray called her opponent, U.S. Army Reservist and Congressman Joe Heck, “un-American.” It was an unbelievably shameful thing to say about someone who has sacrificed so much for their country.

4. Kurt Schrader’s “Grossly Misleading” ObamaCare Hypocrisy

schrader site

Last month, Oregon Congressman Kurt Schrader said President Obama was “grossly misleading” when he promised Americans could keep their plan, if they liked it. What he didn’t say, however, was that he was equally misleading because he spread the same lie President Obama did. On Schrader’s own website, he promised Oregonians they could keep their current insurance, if they liked it.

3. Bill Enyart: The Lone Vote Against Military Chaplains

enyart_honesty

Who knew Illinois’ Bill Enyart was so against military chaplains? Back in October, Enyart was the only member of Congress–from either party–to vote against a bill making military chaplains available to families during the government shutdown. This embarrassing vote showed Illinois that he simply can’t be trusted to help our nation’s veterans.

2. Rick Nolan Plays Politics With Our Veterans’ Care

Nolan was just 1 of 4 Members of Congress to vote against veterans’ benefits, job training and crucial medical care in legislation that was brought to the floor earlier this year. Nolan’s inability to stand up for those who have dedicated their lives to keeping our families and livelihood safe is inexcusable – and it’s time that voters in Minnesota knew what their Representative really stood for.

1. 4 Really Awkward Minutes Of Nancy Pelosi Dancing

What better way to end the year than with 4 minutes of Nancy Pelosi dancing?

Here’s to plenty more Democrat fails in 2014!

Happy New Year from the NRCC!
