NRCC Weekly Rundown: Polls Favor GOP, Carroll’s Empty Event, Santarsiero Not Doing His Job

September 25, 2015

Happy first couple days of Autumn! Here’s a look at what the NRCC is keeping an eye on across the country:

Poll-a-Poll-ooza

Bad news for House Democrats: New polls in six battleground districts show voters favoring their Republican representative for reelection next year over their Democratic challengers. These congressmen and women, who are all members of the NRCC’s Patriot Program, have been working hard for their districts and their constituents are recognizing the results. A quick look at the polls:

We already knew Democrats were out of touch with voters on the issues, but these polls show they’re even more removed from what’s going on in their districts if they keep insisting they’ll gain seats this next cycle.

That Time Nobody Came to Morgan Carroll’s Party

To paraphrase an ancient proverb, if a supposed “top-tier recruit” holds a campaign event but nobody shows up, is that candidate still a “top-tier recruit?” Embarrassingly for Democrat Morgan Carroll, who is running in Colorado’s 6th District, she will have to answer that question.

Over the weekend, Carroll hosted a “listening tour” to help kick off her campaign… or at least tried to, but it’s hard to host something when there’s nobody there. Fifteen minutes after its intended start time, Carroll was forced to resign to the fact that no one was coming and packed her bags. Check out video and photos from the no-show event at Colorado Peak Politics. Looks like CO-06 residents are already realizing that the “ultra-liberal” Carroll is more interested in partisan politics than the concerns of her district.

Do Your Job, Steve Santarsiero

Pennsylvania state representative Steve Santarsiero, who is running in the Keystone State’s 8th Congressional District, has been talking the talk as of late, but now it’s time for him to start walking. On the campaign trail, Santarsiero has called for Kathleen Kane, the state’s attorney general, to resign amid criminal charges. He has leveraged the calls for resignation to attack his Democratic primary opponent, Shaughnessy Naughton, who has ties to Kane. Despite his claimed condemnation of Kane, Santarsiero has failed to use his power as a state legislator to start impeachment proceedings in the statehouse.

This raises the question: Is Santarsiero just playing politics with this important issue or does he truly believe that Kane, who is accused of leaking secret information and perjury, is unfit to serve Pennsylvanians? His lack of action on Kane’s removal may prove he’s not ready to serve the people of PA-08.
