NRCC Weekly Rundown: Coffman Stands Up Against Gitmo Transfers and Stefanik Impresses at Most Powerful Women Summit

October 16, 2015

Your latest roundup in what’s going on in House races across the country:

Mike Coffman Offers Sharp Contrast from Morgan Carroll by Unequivocally Opposing Gitmo Transfers to Colorado

Mike Coffman is clearly committed to keeping Colorado residents safe and making sure dangerous terrorists aren’t relocated on to U.S. soil. As for his Democratic challenger Morgan Carroll? Not so much.

As federal officials consider the Centennial State as a potential location to transfer Gitmo detainees, Coffman has distinguished himself from Carroll by quickly and proactively opposing the idea.

Coffman has clearly articulated that the proposal of bringing these detainees stateside is “outrageous” and puts Americans at risk. Carroll, on the other hand, has stumbled on the issue; her lackluster and flippant response to the possibility of terrorists being relocated to her constituents’ backyard left a lot to be desired in terms of leadership and understanding of national-security concerns.

Many of Carroll’s fellow Democrats have voiced support and voted for shutting down Guantanamo Bay and transferring the prisoners stateside. Her wavering and less-than-full-throated rejection of the idea might be the latest sign that the “ultra-liberal” Carroll is more in line with the far-left members of her party than the voters of CO-06.
